How long does the appeals process take?

Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule. According to the SSA, initial applications take between 90 and 120 days to process, but they sometimes take longer depending on the Agency’s current caseload. Reconsiderations typically take about 4 to 6 months but can last much longer. It can take a year or more to schedule a hearing, and Appeals Council reviews tend to take around a year and a half.
